Western Winds

It was reading week. That meant she was coming home. YAY!!

My daughter boarded the plane in Halifax, and two and a half hours later she was in my car.

Before I knew it, the week was over. I was bringing her back to the airport headed for school.

As she had packed up the night before, she noticed the flight from Toronto to Halifax was only 2 hours.

She asked me where the thirty minutes went.

I told her it was the western winds.

She looked puzzled.

I explained; when planes fly west they must fight the headwinds coming out of the west. This creates resistance and drag, requiring more energy, and adding more time to the trip.

But when you fly east, it’s a tailwind. The wind works in your favour, increasing your speed and reducing the time needed to travel.

Hmmmmm, ever notice our great leaders were tailwinds and our not-so-great leaders were like headwinds?

What kind of wind is in your organization? Heads or tails?
