Mailbox or a Deer

While driving down a country side road I saw a deer 200m up ahead. It was peacefully grazing by the shoulder. I pointed it out to my daughter. She looked at me as if I had two-heads and then said, “that’s a mailbox”.

She pointed out the post and the box and a near by bush. 📫

I scoffed at her delusional view. I then, with the arrogance that comes with certainty, pointed out the deer’s head, body, legs and tail. 🦌

As we approached the deer, it didn’t runaway because it was a mailbox. 🤦‍♂️

I couldn’t see a mailbox because I was looking for a deer. We see what we want to see, not necessarily reality.

The fact I couldn’t see the mailbox was not an issue. The problem was I refused to see the mailbox. I was unwilling to let go of my perception.

Where might you be holding on to seeing a deer when in reality it’s a mailbox?
