At a time when my client needed empathy and support, I choose to focus on BEING RIGHT, thus making him wrong.
Ultimately I backed him into a corner leaving him only one option to regain his dignity: to fire me.
Upon reflection: When I focus on BEING RIGHT, my attention is solely on external factors, what is happening outside of me. I find fault in others and assign blame.
The truth is; when I am judging and blaming others, focused on BEING RIGHT, something is happening on the inside that I need to attend too. My self-esteem is low, I am unsure about my ability, my value.
I now use my ego as a reminder to turn the focus from outside of me to within me.
